Who wins? Who cares?

Is anyone besides me completely sick of competition TV shows? The whole genre started, I guess, with Survivor (which I have never watched). Then there's The Great Race, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Design Star, The Next Food Network Star, Chopped, Project Runway, The Fashion Show, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. They never end.

The ones on HGTV aggravate me the most. I turn on HGTV to get design inspiration and to do the house-voyeur thing - you know, you want to see what everyone else's taste is and what houses are out there for sale. I switched on the TV for distraction while I was working on "Stars over Martinique" today and Battle on the Block was on. That sent me scurrying to the other channels looking for "Law & Order" or "Cold Case", my admitted addictions. Anything but that silly HGTV show. First, I don't think doing something like renovating or decorating at breakneck speed against the clock is entertaining, or anything but ridiculous. Second, I'm enough of a perfectionist to wince when I see jobs done sloppily because of lack of time. And third, the fake 'drama' is stupid.

Thank goodness nobody has come up with "Quilt Against the Clock". Ready, set, sew!

Nope, don't watch any here either. I have always disliked them. I won't even watch them whne I am bored.. Even worse are the "reality" TV shows....All about "stars" and their homes etc....such a waste of time.

I agree - but a TV program is apparently of 'no interest' unless there is some kind of conflict -- that's what I heard, anyway.

TV is worse and worse - I sew more and more. Ya think there is a relationship?

Gosh are you kidding? I'm right there with ya. Law and Order for sewing for sure. You make me giggle. Can you imagine, really, "Quilt Against the Clock?!"

You're silly and fun and I enjoyed this dern post. Someone had to put a voice to this TV situation!

I'm right there with you. I hate reality TV shows and competition shows. I am so sick about the direction TV is going. I like shows with a plot and I like to be entertained. NCIS, Bones, The Closer, Law and Order, these shows definitely get my vote...I'm sick of "so-called" Reality shows and I'm sick of all the people on them too. I could say more, but I'll be nice and stop right there.

...hi Calico... the one thing I've NOT missed[besides political ads] in the 1 year plus I've had no TV are all the stupid reality shows & competitions...I too truly hated them, especially the ones on HGTV & Foodnetwork... I never watched any of the network ones including the genesis of them all[IMHO] Jerry Springer, Oprah & all of those shows that brought the ugliness of humanity and desensitized us to it buy shoving it in our faces...
is it any wonder that our society is "circling the bowl"?...

Oh, catsinger, don't get me started about Jerry Springer and Oprah! They're a scourge on humanity as far as I'm concerned.

...A-men to that...
the last time I watched TV in the afternoon, I was in college and got hooked on a new[then, late 60's] soap on at noon called,"All My Children"...
at least we knew we were watching junk
... not self-serving blather disguised as "entertainment"...
BTW...BIG L&O[the original] fan...
I have years 1-7 on DVD...ever seen the oldest ones ? pre-Sam Waterston?
I bought them "used" on Amazon for a pittance...

Well put. (Thos eshows are cash cows for their respective networks & as such they will go on & on & on.) Which is why I have no less than 7 episodes of Dr. Who waiting for me on the DVR.

I love watching Survivor and The Amazing race.
HGTV has become so boring, I don't even watch it anymore.
Then there is the History channel...Ice Road Truckers is starting up tomorrow!!
I know, there's no accounting for some people's taste.
