Schnibbles

I am currently entranced by this book: It contains some of the cutest simple quilts, in large and small versions using layer cakes and charm packs, respectively. I'm not normally a "quilt book" kind of a person but for Schnibbles I'm making an exception. To the right are two 4.5" blocks I made this morning for the smaller version of the quilt named "Short Story". I'm still scratching my head about the name. Looks more like an hourglass to me. Regardless, it will be part of a small quilt comprised of scrappy Christmas fabric. It could be a nice decoration for the coffee table during the holidays, or I might give it away.

I read the instructions for this block yesterday, including use of the Companion Angle ruler, and they must have stuck in my head because last night I had nightmares about trying to make this quilt. In my dream it kept messing up and coming out wrong. What an awful night I had! I had to get up this morning and make the two blocks to prove I could do it. In the process I realized that the directions for using the Companion Angle ruler on the small block were not correct. That must have subconsciously stayed in my memory and produced the dreams.

Hourglasses? Spools? One time I tried making a block that I found on the internet. I tried FOUR times to get it right. Decided the directions were WRONG. Guess what? I was using the wrong ruler. After I used the RIGHT ruler - the Companion Angle Ruler - the blocks came out perfect. It was those "Night & Day" blocks. The directions make a whole lot more sense witht he correct ruler. I AM a book person. I think I need that one! I could make those hourglass blocks & put them in my spools quilt, as a variation. My spools are 4.5 finished....

I love this little book. I am definitely a book person and just had to have this one. I am still rearranging my sewing room and my husband can atest to the fact! I bought a charm pak to do a small quilt in the book and didn't read the directions before I went to the store. Alot of the patterns in the book take two charm paks...I plan on doing this hourglass/spool pattern too. Your blocks are lovely. Aren't dreams weird? It made you get busy on these blocks though, didn't it??? Hugs, Linda

Dreaming about quilts is pretty common, from what I can figure out. Well done to have trusted your sub-conscious. It usually is right.

Well gosh, this is cool. I don't have the Companion Angle Ruler. Guess I'd have to look up what that is but I do love your blocks. This book looks to be a real hit. I might be missing something if I don't get it, ha?

How funny! I have that companion ruler too but have yet to use it... I'll keep my eye out for the book.

I am thinking I need to get a companion ruler. When I first saw the blocks I thought you sewed a square in a square, then cut diagonally twice and sewed them back together.
I don't think I ever had a quilt dream. I do wake up thinking about them though.
