I think it would work either way, yours would just be subtler. (Yellow is a light - I don't caree what anyone else says about it. & Some of those greens are light too.)
Can I see the shirtings with the greens & yellows? Maybe that image would solidify the idea in your mind... (I have some shirtings that are tan while others are white...)
I think your choices are great - the colors will make a beautiful quilt!
I'm sending you a b/w photo of your choices. Amy is right: both your yellows and greens are lights.
